Our Story
Free Bikes for Kidz Atlanta is an affiliate of the national nonprofit, Free Bikes 4 Kidz. We believe that every kid deserves a bike, so since 2016, we’ve made it our mission to give bikes to kids in our community. You can donate your bikes to our organization, we’ll fix it up, and find it a deserving home with a deserving kid.
Who we are: Free Bikes 4 Kidz Atlanta-Video
Mission & Purpose
Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a non-profit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. The public donates gently used bikes, we organize thousands of volunteers to clean and refurbish them, and then we give them away to kids in need.
In 2023, we gave away 1,000 bikes to kids in our community. We work with community partners like Atlanta Public Schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters, East Atlanta Kids Club, International Rescue Committee, Welcoming Atlanta and more to match our bike inventory with the perfect recipient.
The illustration below tells Minnesota’s growth story, a story that we hope to emulate here in Atlanta.
Our Method
Every year 25 million bikes are sold in the US. One-third of those bikes are 20” wheel-size, or smaller. Since kids grow like weeds, over 8 million bikes are virtually outgrown each year. As a volunteer organization and a charity (501c3) we use local volunteers and donations to fuel the repair process of these bikes and partner with organizations that identify the children most in need. At volume our average repair cost per bike is $25, and that includes a helmet!
