Our Story

2016 was our inaugural year in Atlanta. Working off of the success of the founding organization in Minnesota, we are planning our bike giveaways in the month of December. The Minnesota based Free Bike 4 Kidz launched in 2008 with an initial give away of 300 bikes.  In 2015 they gave away 5000 bikes and continued to expand into new metros.  In the last seven years over 25,000 bikes have rolled through our giveaways and we’re not done yet, with the expansion into the Atlanta market our sights are set high.

Mission & Purpose

Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a non-profit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. The public donates gently used bikes, we organize thousands of volunteers to clean and refurbish them, and then we give them away to kids in need.   The illustration below tells Minnesota’s growth story, a story that we hope to emulate here in Atlanta.

Our Method

Every year 25 million bikes are sold in the US. One-third of those bikes are 20” wheel-size, or smaller. Since kids grow like weeds, over 8 million bikes are virtually outgrown each year.  As a volunteer organization and a charity (501c3) we use local volunteers and donations to fuel the repair process of these bikes and partner with organizations that identify the children most in need.  At volume our average repair cost per bike is $25, and that includes a helmet!

Our Partners

Though the generous help of key partners like QBP, HED. Cycling FB4K-Atlanta is off to a hot start, but we still need support in building the foundation to help every kid ride into a more memorable childhood.
